Ken Johnston is Senior Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer at Purolator – a leading integrated freight, package and logistics solutions provider. With more than 13,000 employees in Canada and the United States, and more than $1.6 billion in annual revenue, Purolator has one of Canada’s most extensive transportation and logistics networks, and supporting infrastructure.
In his role, Ken provides overall executive leadership for the Human Resources function. Included in his direct reporting responsibility are more than 120 team members across a broad spectrum of activities, including Health and Safety, Organizational Change Management, Organizational Development, Learning and Development, Human Resources Service Delivery, Labour Relations, Talent Acquisition and Total Rewards.
An inclusive, collaborative, and people-centered leader with a focus on continuous improvement, Ken has been instrumental in transforming Purolator’s human resources functions and initiatives; including the creation of innovative learning partnerships and career development programs, the growth of a world-class CSR program, and record-setting investments in the company’s workforce. These initiatives have been widely recognized with various awards and accolades including National HR Awards Best Corporate Social Responsibility Program (2017), National HR Awards HR Team of the Year, and Best Recognition Program (2018), Canadian HR Awards Best Talent Management Strategy (2019) and Canada’s Most Admired Corporate Culture (2019).
Prior to joining Purolator, Ken held Human Resources leadership roles with other well-known Canadian brands including Maple Leaf Foods, Sears Canada and Cara Operations.
Ken holds a Master of Industrial Relations and Human Resources from the University of Toronto and a Bachelor of Commerce from Memorial University of Newfoundland.
