Derek Sutherland

Derek G. Sutherland is the President and Chief Executive Officer of MCAN Financial Group. He joined MCAN in 2004 and advanced through several leadership roles, including his appointment as Vice President and Chief Risk Officer (CRO) in January 2013. In this role, he oversaw all key risk functions across the organization until 2016.

In 2017, Mr. Sutherland was elected to the Board of Directors. He was appointed Chair of the Board in 2020 and served in that capacity until his appointment as Chief Executive Officer.

Throughout his career at MCAN, Mr. Sutherland has contributed to critical areas such as term deposits, liquidity management, outsourcing, portfolio management, mortgage funding, investment management, compliance, and anti-money laundering initiatives.

Mr. Sutherland holds the CPA, CA designations and is a member of the institute of Corporate Directors. He also holds the ICD.D designation in Canada.
