Mark Razzolini

Mark Razzolini is a purpose-driven executive with over 30 years of progressive leadership in human resources, people strategy, wellness, and organizational culture. As Senior Vice President and Chief People Officer at Alberta Blue Cross—Alberta’s largest health benefits provider—he has been instrumental in scaling the not-for-profit from under $1 billion in revenue and ~400 employees to ~$5 billion revenue ($4.6 billion in 2024), 1,400 employees, and service to 1.8 million members. His pragmatic, dual-lens approach balances business rigor (85% individual market share, 90% customer loyalty, competitive positioning against national insurers) with human-centered priorities (holistic wellness, flexibility, DEIB, purpose), transforming culture into a measurable driver of performance and success.

Mark pioneered an integrated wellness platform (“Balance”) offered equally to employees and 1.8 million customers—one of Canada’s first such initiatives—combining physical health, mental well-being, financial literacy, and community connection. This created a provincial health movement enhancing thousands of lives and led to the launch of a new Wellbeing Advisory Services subsidiary. His efforts delivered 86% employee engagement (far above 65% benchmark), 91% retention, 73 eNPS, 94% agreement on a welcoming/inclusive culture, and top recognitions: Canada’s Most Admired CPCO Award (Enterprise, 2025), Canada’s Top 100 Employers 2025, Alberta’s Top 85 Employers (multiple years), and Premier’s Award for Healthy Workplaces (5 consecutive years).

Progressing through roles at Alberta Blue Cross from HR Advisor (1995–2001) to Senior Manager HR (2004–2012), VP HR (2012–2018), VP People, Wellness & Innovation (2018–2023), and current CPO/SVP (2023–present), Mark modernized HR practices, implemented systems, and led large portfolios (120-person team, $14M budget) encompassing HR, learning & development, wellness, facilities (10 properties), innovation, and corporate services.

Mark serves as Board Chair of PolicyWise for Children & Families (2021–present), where he led CEO selection and financial diversification, and Board Member of Good Samaritan Society (2023–present). Earlier roles include Vice Chair/Trustee, Edmonton Catholic School Board (2001–2007, elected with 70% majority), where he saved 5+ inner-city schools, and Canadian Council for Indigenous Business. He holds a BA (Political Science/Administration; Canadian History) from the University of Alberta, CPHR designation, and executive certifications from Queen’s University, University of Calgary, NAIT, and others.
