General Manager
Nanaimo, BC
We’re on the search for a General Manager on behalf of our client, a brand-new, luxury, 155-suite independent living residence in Nanaimo, BC. If you have 3–5+ years of progressive leadership experience in retirement living or hospitality, with a proven ability to drive occupancy and sales in a lease-up environment, this may be an opportunity for you.
Reporting to the Director of Operations & Sales, the General Manager will be responsible for the overall operation of this brand-new residence, including programs, services, environmental coordination, and fiscal performance, creating a lifestyle and quality of life that exceeds residents’ expectations. Currently in lease-up, this is a pivotal, hands-on mandate: the successful candidate will build and stabilize a young leadership team, uphold elevated brand standards in a stunning new property, and drive occupancy toward a full building. This is an opportunity for a proven operational leader who can bring structure, consistency, and hospitality-caliber service to a new community, while navigating the realities of an opening environment.
Sales and occupancy growth are a central focus of the role, alongside hospitality, resident engagement, food and beverage, and building and amenity management, all delivered with the elevated, boutique-hotel level of service that defines the independent living experience. The General Manager will build, stabilize, and develop a young leadership team of approximately seven — including an Office Manager, Maintenance Manager, Food Services Manager, Resident Experience Manager, and two Sales Consultants — while partnering closely with the on-site sales consultants to convert prospective resident interest into move-ins. The ideal candidate is entrepreneurial and resourceful, brings a genuine, service-first mindset, and pairs a background in hospitality or retirement/senior living with strong business and financial acumen. A post-secondary certificate, diploma, or degree program in hospitality/hotel management, resort management, or business administration/management is preferred, ideally paired with hospitality experience.
All responses are sent to Waterstone Human Capital. Please, indicate your interest in Project # 0418-0004S. Please note: Only candidates selected for an interview will be contacted.
