Sarmad Gilani joined the Waterstone team as Chief Financial Officer in April 2024. He brings a wide array of private equity and investment management experience to the role, having worked on strategy, finance and operations, transformation, treasury, and technology projects, across multiple sectors and geographies.

Most recently Sarmad served as a Director of Finance and Operations at Brookfield Asset Management, a leading global alternative asset manager with over $600 billion of assets under management. Prior to joining Brookfield, he was a consultant at PwC, where he engaged in various deals and advisory services for clients in Private Equity, healthcare, pharmaceutical, software, and mining industries. Services included Corporate Development, Mergers and Acquisitions, Valuations, Financial Modeling and Due Diligence.

Sarmad has an MBA degree with a focus on financial accounting and management, and a Bachelor of Health Sciences degree that fostered his problem-solving and critical thinking skills. He is also a Chartered Accountant (CPA, CA) and a recipient of the CPA Emerging Leader Award, which recognizes the professional and philanthropic contributions of Ontario’s young CPAs. He is passionate about learning and sharing his insights through publications, speaking engagements, and Board directorships.
